When life feels like a relentless downpour, it’s easy to lose sight of the possibility of blue skies. I know this firsthand. In my journey with infertility, a traumatic birth, and surrogacy, I faced some of the most difficult and defining moments of my life. But through it all, I discovered a profound lesson that I want to share with you today: even in the heaviest storms, there is always a way to rise.
My new book, Rising Through Rain, is not just a memoir; it’s a testament to the human spirit’s ability to endure and transform through life’s most difficult challenges. In it, I recount the raw, vulnerable story of my personal struggles with infertility, the trauma of a life-threatening birth, and ultimately, my decision to pursue surrogacy to build the family I had always dreamed of. But beyond these deeply personal experiences, this book is about something much greater—resilience, hope, and the power of transformation.
The Storm of Infertility
Infertility is an invisible storm that shakes your world. It’s filled with uncertainty, grief, and the constant questioning of your own body and worth. It’s a storm that often feels silent to the outside world, but its impact on those who live through it is loud, painful, and all-consuming.
In my journey, infertility wasn’t just a medical challenge—it was emotional and psychological. It became part of my identity, making me feel less than whole. I wondered if I would ever be able to create the family I longed for. But in facing this storm, I also found unexpected strength. The path wasn’t easy, but it was the path that led me to profound personal growth.
The Trauma of Birth: A Life-Threatening Storm
Just when I thought I had weathered the worst of it, the birth of my son brought with it a new kind of storm—a life-threatening one. What was supposed to be the culmination of my dream to become a mother turned into a battle for both my life and my son’s. We both faced critical complications, and the experience was nothing short of terrifying. But as harrowing as that time was, it taught me that resilience isn’t about avoiding difficulty. Resilience is about finding strength in the struggle and learning to rebuild from the ground up.
Surrogacy: Embracing the Unknown
When the storm of infertility and a traumatic birth left me reeling, I realized that the life I had imagined for myself wasn’t going to unfold the way I had planned. And that’s okay. I embraced the unexpected, the unfamiliar, and the seemingly impossible: surrogacy.
Surrogacy wasn’t just a means to expand my family—it was a turning point. It was a moment where I decided to rise through the rain, to step into the unknown and trust that, somehow, the path I was on would lead me to the family I had always hoped for. Surrogacy showed me that the love we share in a family is not confined by biology. It is defined by the hearts that choose each other.
From Heartache to Hope: A Journey of Transformation
Through every obstacle, every storm, I learned that heartache doesn’t have to define you—it can be the very thing that propels you forward. I went from feeling powerless in the face of infertility to discovering an inner strength I didn’t know I had. I learned that resilience isn’t about pushing through without breaking—it’s about allowing yourself to bend and then rise again.
This journey taught me more than how to be a mother—it taught me how to live with purpose, how to embrace change, and how to hold onto hope even when it seems out of reach.
Why Rising Through Rain is for You
Whether you’re struggling with infertility, dealing with trauma, or simply facing life’s inevitable storms, Rising Through Rain is for anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed by the challenges in their life. My story is one of perseverance, but more importantly, it’s a story of transformation.
We all face storms in life—some are brief, some feel endless. But what I’ve learned is that no storm, no matter how fierce, can take away your ability to rise. Through my journey, I discovered that the human spirit is capable of so much more than we give it credit for. We are all capable of navigating through life’s downpours, embracing the unknown, and emerging stronger on the other side.
How to Rise Through Your Own Storm
If there’s one thing I want you to take away from my story, it’s this: you don’t have to go through your struggles alone, and you don’t have to have all the answers. Resilience is built one small step at a time. Some days it’s about showing up, even when you don’t feel like it. Other days, it’s about allowing yourself the grace to rest and heal.
Here are a few ways you can start rising through your own storm:
Allow yourself to feel: Embrace your emotions instead of suppressing them. Feeling your pain, fear, or uncertainty is the first step in healing.
Find support: Whether it’s through family, friends, or professional help, you don’t have to face your storm alone. Lean on others, and a higher power, who can guide you through.
Give yourself grace: Healing is not linear. Some days will feel harder than others, and that’s okay.
Trust in the process: Even when it’s hard, trust that life has a way of guiding you through challenges, even if the path isn’t clear right away.
The Storm Will Pass
In my book, Rising Through Rain, I’ve shared my personal experiences with vulnerability, truth, and hope. It’s my hope that, through reading my journey, you’ll find courage to face your own storms and the strength to rise through them. Life will never be free of challenges, but with hope and resilience, you can face anything that comes your way.
No matter how heavy the rain may fall, remember this: the storm will pass, and the sun will shine again.
Thank you for joining me on this journey of hope, healing, and transformation. I invite you to dive deeper into the pages of Rising Through Rain—and may it be the inspiration you need to rise through your own life’s storms.
